Overview

Not on arbitrary scales of roast-level such as “brewed as light as water” or “burnt to holy hell.” Instead, we looked at how it fills our soul, or as we like to say, our cup. A brew for every time of day, for every challenge life throws at us. Roasts that toast to the best coffee producers and importers we are honored to partnered with. Inspiring coffee stories to fuel you through your own adventure.

Coffeebar proudly presents four signature bean types: Giuseppe Italian roast, Zephyr house espresso blend, Prima Donna decaf, and Vertical Reserve rotating single origin blend. In this photoshoot, we wanted to celebrate each bag’s unique characteristics using monochromatic and/or analogous color schemes, simple paper elements, and fun illustrations. Each scene is an adventure of another day and another challenge.

Concepting and Building

Leah, Coffeebar’s in-house designer, and I put our heads together to imagine the look and feel of each coffee bag. We were drawn to paper art and wanted that hands-on, layered feel to come through. Story came first. We talked about what each bag could say—where the beans come from, who might love this coffee, and where you’d want to be when you open the bag or take that first sip. My sketchbook quickly filled with thumbnail sketches and notes as the ideas took shape.

Each bag had its own color, so we used analogous paper tones to build a small scene around it. I spent plenty of time digging through craft stores for just the right shades of paper. Then came the fun part: creating dielines, cutting each piece by hand, and assembling the scenes with scissors in one hand and glue in the other.

Final Work

After many arts/crafts sessions—and the occasional thrift store run for extra props—the pieces finally came together for a photoshoot. Leah and I assembled everything into its own small world. Each finished coffee bag tells a story about place, mood, and the kind of moment that coffee creates. To add a bit more whimsy, I layered in Leah’s illustrations, pushing the look and feel further and making it feel even more playful and on brand.

Giuseppe - Italian Roast

Coffeebar was born from an inspiration the owner had during his trip to a café in a small Italian province. This blend is deep and sophisticated. It’s a perfect companion to get your day pumped up for a focused, hard-working work/school day.

Zephyr - Espresso Blend

Inspired by the small town of Truckee, California, the home ground of Coffeebar. The town is surrounded by the Sierra Mountains, Lake Tahoe, and Truckee River - it’s a destination for camping, backpacking, hiking, skiing, swimming... You name any outdoor activities!

Prima Donna - Decaf Blend

Coffeebar would not have grown so much as it is now if it weren’t for amazing boss ladies in the team. The artwork is inspired by the infamous saying, “death before decaf,” as we have a lovely skeleton lady with a bad-ass attitude. The decaf blend is for everyone (not just the ladies) to carry on the energy of coffee for a fun concert night, but have a good night sleep after.

Vertical Reserve - Single Origin

Coffeebar supports and partners up with amazing farmers all over the world. We sincerely thank our hard-working partners and the sun for producing amazing coffee beans for our Coffeebar fans!
