Overview
MCAPS Start is an internal Microsoft event that kicks off the new fiscal year and brings together partners and customers. The event received a refreshed Event Branding System (EBS) in 2025, and my team was responsible for translating it into the visual design of the event website, which serves multiple attendee groups: digital, in-person, and award winners.
Navigating Design
I explored two visual directions. The first leaned into celebration—an explosive, confetti-like motif reminiscent of fireworks to signal the start of the fiscal year. Although the concept was exciting, it didn’t feel appropriate at the time, as the company was navigating widespread layoffs. We ultimately moved forward with a more restrained approach using ripple forms that flow upward and to the right, symbolizing growth, skilling up, and forward momentum.

Developing Wireframes
Another key part of my job was collaborating with multiple teams to ensure the digital venue addressed the needs of each group involved in the event. For example, I worked closely with the marketing and communications team to highlight what attendees could expect and build anticipation ahead of the event. I also partnered with the logistics, sponsor, and content teams to make sure their information was clearly represented.
On the design side, I made recommendations on the most user-centered solutions. With many moving pieces throughout the process, it was important to stay focused on what would best serve the attendee experience. The main challenge was translating a wide range of inputs from various teams into an organized, cohesive experience—developing efficient layouts that helped attendees easily navigate and digest information.
